Personal Injury Heroes: Your Chiropractor
Get to Know Your Ontario Personal Injury Medical Team
After a serious car accident, you will likely need to see medical specialists for your injuries while on your way to recovery. In this series, we’ll be introducing you to those specialists and how they can help you get back on track after an accident. One such specialist is a chiropractor.
What does a chiropractor do?
A chiropractor is a specialist in manually adjusting the spine and joints of the body. Their focus is on the musculoskeletal system.
What can a chiropractor do for my injuries?
It’s quite common for those injured in accidents to visit a chiropractor. Ask your family doctor about visiting a chiropractor if you are experiencing any of the following:
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Whiplash
- Headache
- Strains and sprains
- Poor movement
When you visit a chiropractor they will use a hands-on, manual treatment to work on these problems. The goal of chiropractic care is to reduce the pain you are experiencing by improving your range of movement and flexibility.
Is chiropractic care covered by OHIP?
No. Chiropractic care is usually covered by third party insurance or out of pocket. If you are in an accident, chiropractic care is covered under Accident Benefits Coverage. Also, you are most likely covered for chiropractic care if you are part of, or signed up for, any of the following services and institutions:
- Federal public service
- worker’s compensation boards
- the automobile insurance industry
- private health care insurers
- employee benefit plans,
- the RCMP
- Veteran’s Affairs Canada
Stay tuned: we’ll be featuring more members of your personal injury medical team throughout the next few weeks.
