Your Role in a Lawsuit: What We’ll Ask You to Do—And What We’ll Handle Ourselves

One of the most common questions we hear at Auger Hollingsworth is, “What do I need to do now that I’ve hired a lawyer?” It’s a good question—and an important one.

The short answer is: we take care of the legal work, so you can focus on getting better. But there are still a few key responsibilities that you, as the client, will have throughout the life of your case. Think of it as a partnership—we each have a role to play to make your case successful.

Here’s what you can expect from us, and what we may need from you in return.

What We Handle For You

When you retain Auger Hollingsworth, you hand over the legal stress—and we take it from there. Our team of lawyers, licensed paralegals, and law clerks will:

  • Request and pay for your medical records
  • Deal directly with the insurance company
  • Complete and file all legal documents and court materials
  • Hire and communicate with medical or legal experts
  • Track important deadlines and limitation periods
  • Negotiate on your behalf
  • Prepare your case for settlement or trial, if necessary

You won’t have to chase records, argue with insurance adjusters, or figure out complicated legal forms. That’s our job—and we do it thoroughly, strategically, and with your best interests at heart.

What We’ll Ask You to Do

Although we handle the legal side of things, there are some important tasks that only you can take care of:

  1. Stay in Touch With Your Treatment Providers

Your ongoing treatment creates the medical evidence we’ll rely on to prove your injuries. Please attend all appointments and let us know about any changes in your treatment plan or providers.

  1. Keep Us Updated

Moved to a new address? Changed phone numbers? Switched jobs? Tell us. We need up-to-date information to move your file forward and to ensure legal documents reach you on time.

  1. Provide Prompt Responses

We may need signatures, documents, or answers to clarify your timeline or injury progression. The faster we get that information, the sooner we can take the next step.

  1. Avoid Discussing Your Case Publicly

Please avoid posting on social media about your injury or recovery. Insurers monitor claimants online, and even casual posts can be misunderstood or misused.

We’re a Team—And We’re Here to Support You

We’ll never ask you to navigate this process alone. If we request something and you’re unsure what to do, just call or email your legal team—we’ll explain it, walk you through it, or handle it for you whenever we can.

Your role is to be honest, responsive, and to take care of your health. Our role is to protect your rights and fight for the compensation you deserve.

Together, we’ll get through this.
