Meet the team!

Paralegals are the unsung backbone of the legal profession – but not at Auger Hollinsworth. Every team member is highly valued, and we’d love you to get to know them, so we asked them a few questions.

Andrew Nicol:

Q: Was there a person or event that influenced you to join the legal profession?

A: My Grade 9 Law teacher who tried to urge me to think of a career in law due to my performance in the class. After initially going to University for Criminology and Sociology, I am glad I eventually took her advice and am now working in the field of law.

Q: If you had to describe your professional values in three words, what would they be?

A: Empathy, Diligent, Loyalty.

Q: What is the most meaningful thing you are able to do for clients?

A: Just being there for them when they need me and helping them navigate the legal process.  Clients usually come to us often at their toughest times and with no idea about the process itself or how to get them the help they need for their recovery.

Q: When you’re not at work, your secret superpower is…

A: Being able play rugby on a Saturday and move on a Sunday!

Jessica Kraft:

Q: Was there a person or event that influenced you to join the legal profession?

A: I decided to join the legal profession because I wanted to help people. I enjoy getting to know our clients and trying to find ways to help them on their road to recovery. I am also interested in the aspect of legal research and drafting to help build up and support our clients’ claims.

Q: If you had to describe your professional values in three words, what would they be?

A: My professional values are reliability, compassion, and communication. Reliability is very important for both our clients and my colleagues to be able to depend on me to have our tasks completed in a timely manner and always follow through on commitments. Compassion and communication are also central to our work. Our clients have suffered injuries and our experiencing the stress of dealing with insurance companies and the legal process. Showing compassion and having ongoing open communication with our clients is necessary to help them through this process and build our relationship so that we can successfully represent their claim.

Q: What is the most meaningful thing you are able to do for clients?

A: The most meaningful thing I can do for clients is to assist them in setting up the treatment they require and exploring access to different funds they may be eligible to receive. When clients are unable to work due to their injuries or do not have private health insurance that will cover their treatment expenses, obtaining additional funds through their insurance companies or government benefits can make a world of difference in working towards their recovery.

Q: When you’re not at work, your secret superpower is…

A: I am a mom of an almost 1 year old, which keeps me busy outside of work. I also enjoy playing tennis and spending time cooking.

Phyllis Bergmans:

Q: Was there a person or event that influenced you to join the legal profession?

A: I’m not sure how to answer this question. I fell into the legal profession because after working with an insurance company for 18 years, I wanted to switch ‘sides’ and went out as a consultant. I was already working as an Accident Benefits consultant when the Law Society determined that the work I do would fall under the parameters of a paralegal. At that time, I was encouraged to write my paralegal exams to stay employed.
