“Working in personal injury is never an abstract legal exercise. Traumatic injuries impact every aspect of a client’s life, and the most positive outcomes we can achieve are grounded in the larger reality of who they are as individuals, and of the life and future they want to rebuild.”
Luke Maynard was a late arrival to the practice of law, trading the abstract world of the ivory tower for the opportunity to make a meaningful, hands-on difference in the lives of clients and the broader community. A native of London, Ontario, he spent several years on the West Coast, returning with a PhD in English Literature.
After stretches of teaching everything from Beowulf to slam poetry, and a few misadventures as an indie musician and novelist, Luke attended law school at the University of Toronto. He volunteered at Toronto’s Downtown Legal Services, Pro Bono Students Canada, Artists’ Legal Advice Services, and Advocates for Injured Workers, where he supplemented his studies with hands-on advocacy experience.
Luke completed his licensing through Ryerson’s Law Practice Program and was called to the Bar in 2020. He joined Auger Hollingsworth’s Toronto office in January 2021, and is excited by the ways in which emerging technology has enhanced the firm’s closeness as a tight-knit team, even as it grows from one city to the next.
Outside of work, Luke is still active in the arts & letters. A voracious consumer (and occasional producer) of books and music, he still writes daily when he’s not exploring exotic destinations, whether around the world or around the immensely diverse city he calls home.
